About

I was born on 27/08/1967, in Cape Town - South Africa.
For as long as I can remember my father has always been involved in photography with his own darkroom at the back of our house.
Playing with his cameras and lenses and assisting him at the Killarney Race Track is what got me started. In those days I was using a Nikon F2.
I am still very involved with photography at the race track and my passion for speed is every much evident in my photography. Brilliant colours, the concentration expressed on the drivers faces and the inevitable and spectacular crashes all make for exciting photography. It is the feeling of satisfaction when complete strangers express interest in buying my photographs that beckons me toward the world of professional photography rather than just keeping this hobby to myself.
I find action sports photography extremely challenging, especially when it comes to the likes of ice hockey and figure skating. Here there are severe limitations on the lighting and added to that the fast movements have meant many hours of training and preparation are required in order to produce advertising quality. I have been most successful with my Nikon D3 and 200F2 Lens.
There always needs to be a balance and after spending time in this fast-paced world, it’s time to look at nature and wildlife. Calm and serenity prevail in many long treks to distant bird hides. This is when it is time to take stock of life and enjoy the sheer beauty of it all. To capture the miraculous feats of nature on camera has to be the most exhilarating feeling ever. A crocodile from nowhere seamlessly captures its prey, thrashes about until its lifeless body is consumed. It’s breathe-taking just how strong the power of nature really is. Utterly amazing to be at the right place, at the right time and with the right camera equipment to preserve those moments forever. In the wild it’s important to carry a variety of lenses ranging from the 300mm F2.8 and 500mm F4 Prime ,the 200-400 F4 zoom and for the larger moments with elephants and giraffes the 70-200mm F2.8 is there to capture the moment. The 105mm F2.8 Micro captures the essence of bee’s pollinating our fabulous fynbos or even smaller items. I am always stunned by the clarity that can be achieved with digital and in particular my D2Xs. Even when my kids are snapping away with their little D50 picture perfect memories are created.
My photographs have been used in local advertising and magazines as well as International magazines and corporate books.
